WIMAL TRANSFERRED TO PRISONS HOSPITAL
Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa, who has been on hunger strike inside the Welikada prison since March 22, has been transferred to the Prisons Hospital yesterday morning, after his condition deteriorated, his party said. The National Freedom Front (NFF) Leader, who has currently been remanded, commenced the hunger strike last Wednesday at the Magazine Prison by refusing to have his breakfast, following the rejection of his bail application.
MP Weerawansa was arrested on January 10 and was remanded for allegedly misusing 40 State vehicles belonging to the State Engineering Corporation causing a loss of Rs. 90 million to the State.
