Since independence constitutional reforms have been implemented without consulting the views of the public

in the political history of the country the public have been afforded the opportunity to express their views on the modalities of a new constitution.the people all over the country have shown a keen interest in this regard and they are making proposals.this would result in drafting a constitution acceptable to the people.the constitution should guarantee the sovereignty of the people and contain provisions to protect their fundamental rights, freedom and uphold the international conventions on human rights and children’s rights. Another object of the new constitution is to guarantee the Sri Lankan identity. The committee has received proposals to form a Senate represented by Chief Ministers and to reduce the strength of the cabinet to 30.” He further said.
