Two suspects arrested distilling illicit liquor

KALUTARA

A stock of 80,000 drams of illicit liquor and distilling equipment were seized and two suspects taken into custody by the Kalutara Division Law Enforcement Unit.

Police said about five barrels of spirits and Goda had been buried in a marshy land at the foot of a hill in Ebonwatta in Matugama.

A senior official of the Law Enforcement Unit said that the suspects had been carrying on the racket for a long time supplying illicit liquor to liquor dens in Matugama, Yatadola, Welipenna and Aluthgama areas.

A police team under OIC Law Enforcement Unit Tilanga Sanjeewa carried out the raid on the instructions of SSP Kalutara Division Upul Nilmini Ariyaratne.
