Mahaweli river running dry due to drought

The Mahaweli river has been running dry due to the prevailing drought.

Residents of several areas who depend on the river for their water requirements said it was for the first time in more than 25 years that the river had been affected by a drought in this manner. They said they would soon run short of drinking water if the drought continued.
