Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ unveiled in Sri Lanka

Continuing its commitment towards introducin­g its latest products to Sri Lankans, Samsung Sri Lanka unveiled Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ last week at the Nelum Pokuna theatre premises at a gala event.

Talking to Mirror Business, Samsung Sri Lanka Managing Director Youngmin Shin said that everybody is talking about this wonderful product and they are pleased to introduce it to the Sri Lankan market, which was introduced to the Indian market two days before it was launched in Sri Lanka.

Shin said that in March 2017 they hit Rs.2.5 billion sales, becoming the only mobile company in Sri Lanka to achieve such a target.

He also noted that they are the number one mobile brand in Sri Lanka, holding 60 percent of market share, adding that they will continue to be in its place by investing more in introducin­g new technologi­es and proving better services to the customers.

Shin further noted that the smartphone market is growing in Sri Lanka and there is a trend where people are switching from 3G phones to 4G phones.

He also thanked the Sri Lankans for placing trust on them, as in the previous series they sold wonderful numbers.

The features of the phones are as follows.

Galaxy S8 and S8+ are equipped with a stunning infinity display, that gives an immersive viewing experience, Shin said.

“It has bigger displays, wonderful screen sizes. When you watch movies, you don’t feel like it is a normal phone, it gives a cinematic experience,” he said.

Galaxy S8 comes in 5.8-inch and Galaxy S8+ comes in 6.2 inch.

It also equips an enhanced camera. The highly advanced 8MP F1.7 contains a smart autofocus front camera and 12MP F1.7 Dual Pixel rear camera to capture best shots in low-light with the facility to zoom and shoot anti-blur photos with enhanced image processing.

It was noted that both the phones are equipped with the industry’s first 10nm processor, assuring heightened speed and efficiency.

The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are built on Samsung Knox, a defence-grade security platform that ensures a global standard in mobile security.

Further, both the phones offer a wide selection of biometrics technologi­es including a fingerprin­t scanner, iris scanner and facial recognitio­n mode that gives users a secure method of biometric authentica­tion.

More features as noted were the IP68 water and dust resistancy, Microsd support up to 256GB, always on display and a fast wireless charging capability.

Another highlight is the Bixby, an intelligen­t interface that optimizes integratio­n with the phone. It was noted that using the new Bixby button, the customer can convenient­ly access a host of services that enhance convenienc­e via apps, with simple voice, touch vision and text commands.

The earphones on both the phones are tuned to AKG by Harman, ensuring uncompromi­sed audio with unbeatable sound quality and comes as an in-box accessory, it was noted. It is designed with a comfortabl­e hybrid canal fit for better noise cancellati­on, made from anti-tangle metal-fabric material.

The phones come in a different colour palette that includes midnight black, coral blue and maple gold. By Zahara Zuhair
