Accusing the Sri Lankan Government of suppressing Hinduism, India’s Hindu Makkal Katchi leader Arjun Sampath on Saturday said his organisation opposed the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the island nation to take part in the Buddhist festival, Indian Deccan Chronicle reported.

“But, the entire island had been declared as a Buddhist State and the Hindus in the island, who are the natives of Lanka had been massacred,” Arjun Sampath added.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to participate for the UN Vesak Day opening ceremony, which will be held in Colombo.
The UN Vesak Day celebrations will be held from May 12 to 14 in Colombo and Kandy.
