Staff retrenchme­nt at Dambulla SLCTB Depot

Councilor of the Central Provincial Council, Tissa Bandara Herath says he was going to protest against the decision taken by the Ministry of Transport to convert the SLTB Dambulla depot into a sub depot. He said that its administra­tion will come under the purview of Kekirawa depot. He added that he was going to protest against it with the people without any political affiliatio­ns. The councilor had paid an inspection visit to the depot, in question, to find out the informatio­n received by him about it on Sunday.

The Depot Manager of Dambulla , A. M. Navaratna said that arrangemen­ts were being made to retrench the staff and convert the Dambulla depot into a sub depot. A decision has been taken to suspend the operation of bus repairing workshop. He said further that there were 65 buses and more than 300 members of staff who are employed in this depot. The employees said that it was surprising to hear that this depot had all facilities was going to be converted into a sub depot while Kekirawa depot was going to be converted into a regional depot without any required facilities.

The Councillor added that there is no big difference between the previous and present regime and noted that the SLCTB is used to transport people to public rallies during elections and May days.
