SLFP should not be abandoned during a crisis - N. Siripala

- BY THILANKA KANAKARATHNA

Even though the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is undergoing a difficult time, it is not a sensible decision to abandoned the party for the short term gains. Transport and Civil |Aviation Minister Nimal Sripala De Silva made this observation while addressing a SLFP meeting at the Badulla Postal auditorium on Saturday April 22.

He said the members of SLFP should protect the party to carry out its agenda.

“There were times we lost elections and lost our positions, however, we survived as we were able to protect our party since then. Each and every member has a collective responsibility to safeguard the SLFP. Even though there are some mishaps within the party and we should work towards the betterment of the party,” he said.

Minister Siripala also said formation of a new party is not an answer to resolve the matters. He stressed that whatever the issue, it should be solved within the party.

Minister said during the last presidential election, majority of the SLFP members did not vote in favour of President Maithripala Sirisena.

However, he is the current leader of the party and everybody should give their fullest cooperation to the President to carry out the party mandate without any hindrence.
