ROCK ‘N’ ROLL LEGEND ELVIS PRESLEY’S MEMPHIS HOME GOES UP IN SMOKE
The Memphis home that rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley bought using royalties from his hit single Heartbreak Hotel, caught on fire.
As the famed musician was climbing the charts, Elvis bought a modest home in a quiet Tennessee neighborhood with his earnings in 1956.
That same home to the man known for his provocative hip swinging moves, caught on fire Presley purchased the home in the mid 1950s and only lived there just over a year as he skyrocketed to fame, appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show and recording Hound Dog and Don’t Be Cruel and was damaged on Saturday morning. A neighbor who had a quick peek inside the home as smoke was seen billowing out, described the interior as being charred and the walls blackened. The residence located at 1034 Audubon Drive is now owned by music industry veteran and philanthropist Mike Curb.

Memphis Fire Lt. Wayne Cooke didn’t have a damage estimate and said the electrical fire started in the wall between the living room and dining room.
Cooke said firefighters responded just after 7.30am and the fire was under control about 20 minutes later. According to The Mirror, Elvis bought the home using royalties from his single Heartbreak Hotel, which was released on January 27, 1956.

The home is currently unoccupied and is undergoing renovations
