We will decide on the new CM: NPC member Sayanthan

- BY S. NITHARSHAN

The new Chief Minister for the NPC has not been confirmed as yet. However, the NPC Chairman C.V.K Sivagnanam has been elected by the majority of the Members and the Health Minister P. Sathiyalingam’s name too has been listed. We will decide about the new Chief Minister later, NPC Member K. Sayanthan said.

He made the above comments at a media meeting held on Saturday at the ITAK office.

NPC Member Sayanthan said that they had collectively worked with the NPC Chief Minister; however, later they had found it difficult to work with him. The reason was when the activities in the NPC were not functioning effectively they had attempted to put them in order but it became difficult to work with the Chief Minister. “Meanwhile, we also brought many a time to his attention that a member was misusing the NPC funds but he turned a deaf ear to us. He did not take any action and that was the reason we requested him to take action against the said Minister,” he said.

Under these circumstances, the Committee appointed by the Chief Minister had charged two Ministers and said that the complainants against the other two Ministers did not make their presence at the inquiry. Meanwhile, the Committee had interrogated not only the complainants but also the Ministers. If an extension was needed for the committee, he should have certainly done that. But instead, he requested the two Ministers found guilty to step down and sent the other two Ministers on compulsory leave. The Chief Minister by doing so had maintained a soft stance on Minister P. Aynkaranesan, the NPC member said.

“Under these circumstances we have lost our confidence on the Chief Minister and had submitted a no-confidence motion on him to the Governor. There are three ways to remove the Chief Minister and we are ready with all three methods. However, the Chairman of the NPC C.V.K Sivagnanam has been elected by the majority of the Members and also the name of Sathiyalingam is also there. But we will decide about the new Chief Minister later. The Governor meanwhile could request the NPC Chief Minister to prove the majority in the House and at the same time another new Chief Minister could be elected and request him to show his majority in the House. Here we could prove the majority. In fact there are 15 Members in the ruling party supporting us and 14 members in favour of the Chief Minister. Under these circumstances, we are determined to pass the no-confidence motion against C.V Wigneswaran. However, if there is a gesture for an amicable settlement, we will consider that as well, NPC

member Sayanthan said.
