Aluthgamage’s passport released by court
The Colombo High Court yesterday released the passport of former Sports Minister and Kandy District Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage in order for him to stamp his American visitor’s visa to enable him to visit his child in the US. His passport was impounded by court over an alleged criminal breach of trust case amounting to Rs. 3.9 million belonging to the Sri Lanka Nidahas Kamkaru Congress.the Attorney General had filed indictment against him on charges of criminal breach of trust. When the case came up before the Colombo High Court, President’s Counsel Kalinga Indatissa appearing with Niroshan Siriwardena for the accused informed Court that there was a ruling that the passports belonging to Parliamentarians should not be kept in court custody. The Attorney General by the indictment had alleged that Mr. Aluthgamage had committed a criminal breach of trust to the tune of Rs. 3.9 million by misappropriating Rs.1,000,000, Rs.1, 900,000 and another Rs.1, 000,000 belonging to the Sri Lanka Nidahas Kamkaru Congress in the period from October, 2012 to April 2013.
He was charged for committing punishable offences under section 388 and 389 of the Penal Code. The Attorney General has listed 13 prosecution witnesses to give evidence and had listed eight documents as productions in the case.
