Sentenced to death for trafficking heroin
The Colombo High Court yesterday sentenced a suspect, who was found guilty of trafficking 17. 51 grammes of heroin in Kirulapone in 2012, to death.
The convict Chandana Pradeep Hewa Beddage of Kirulapone was indicted by the Attorney General in the High Court for trafficking heroin under the Dangerous Drugs Act.
On conclusion of the trial in the Colombo High Court, Judge Gihan Kulatunge imposed the death penalty after observing that the charges against the accused had been proven beyond reasonable doubt.
State Counsel Hansa Abeyratna appeared for the prosecution.
