Asia Pacific businesses poised for major digital transformation

- By Supun Dias

The businesses in the Asia Pacific region are poised for a major digital transformation in the next few years according to Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS) Global Chief Technology Officer Hu Yoshida, who is on a visit to Sri Lanka.

HDS Corporation is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd. He made these comments at a media briefing held at Cinnamon Grand Hotel where he shared key businesses and technology trends for Asia Pacific.

“Productivity in developed countries has decreased over the last 15 years and the reason is mostly due to the fact that the available technology isn’t used efficiently. Unless there is no change in the business model, the productivity level would further decrease. All countries are now focusing on increasing their digital productivity with new business modules which is why it is important to countries in this part of the world,” he said.

“Digital transformation is fast becoming an organizational issue. It is no longer just Chief Information Officers (Clos) who are championing the need for digital change, but leaders across all business functions. There is now an almost universal understanding within businesses that all functions need to look at how they transform their own practices through digitization,” said Yoshida. He noted that there are 5 key findings based on the 2016 survey sponsored by HDS, enterprises in Asia Pacific generally believe they are further ahead in their digital transformation journeys than their global counterparts. One is productivity gains will be more about people, process and business outcomes; accelerating transition to cloud; Bi-modal IT; a centralized data hub and the latest findings will be growing awareness of a lot in the Data Centre.

“Right now trends are being driven by a clear enterprise demand to deliver on all the promises of digital transformation, with Asia Pacific set to lead the way. Regardless of industry, IT is seeing a fundamental shift as enterprises embrace the new revenue streams, efficiencies and possibilities provided by digitization,” Yoshida added.
