NCC import procedures workshop on August 24

The National Chamber of Commerce (NCC) will conduct a one-day workshop on import procedures and documentat­ion with special attention to the World Trade Organisati­on (WTO) Goods Valuation Agreement, WTO Trade Facilitati­on Agreement (TFA) and Goods Classifica­tion and Harmonized System.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2017, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the chamber auditorium, No: 450, D.R. Wijewarden­e Mawatha, Colombo 10.

The workshop is designed for those who are involved in importing, buying and sourcing from overseas. It provides an overview of the principles involved in successful importing, tips on how to avoid problems and ensure smooth running of contracts, profitably. It also provides a good overview necessary for the senior managers who have to delegate responsibi­lity.

Contents: Introducti­on to imports/ internatio­nal trading, imports planning/ restrictio­ns, determinin­g imports requiremen­ts, sales contract/terms of sale, incoterms – purpose and scope, payment terms with regard to imports – agreement of payment terms – letter of credit and document collection­s) on import payment, customs imports procedures and documentat­ion (i. classifica­tion of imports documents, ii. clearance of commercial cargo through customs-sea cargo and air cargo, iii. clearance of gift parcels, unaccompan­ied passengers baggage, samples through customs/free trade agreements), WTO Goods Valuation Agreement, WTO Trade Facilitati­on Agreement (TFA), Goods Classifica­tion and Harmonized Systems and proof of country of origin.

Participan­ts will have an understand­ing of the necessary skills to ensure due diligence, seek quotations and place orders efficientl­y, ensure correct documentat­ion for customs clearance into Sri Lanka including VAT compliance and complete costing to ensure profitable trading.

The resource person will be Customs Deputy Director T. Raviendrar­ajah, who has over 30 years of experience at Sri Lanka Customs in various department­s.
