SHIRANTHI REPORTS TO CID, ROHITHA TO FCID

Statements recorded on two ongoing investigat­ions

Former president Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife Shiranthi and their youngest son Rohitha reported to the CID and the FCID respective­ly yesterday morning to record statements with regard to two separate ongoing investigat­ions.

The Police said she was asked to record a statement on the defender jeep, donated by the Red Cross in 2011 to the Siriliya Saviya Foundation, but had instead been used to provide protection to a VIP.

The former president and his sons Namal, Yoshitha and Ms. Rajapaksa’s lawyers accompanie­d her to the CID office while a large number of supporters were gathered outside the CID premises.

Police personnel and a water cannon were deployed outside the CID premises to tighten security.

Ms. Rajapaksa left the CID office three hours later after recording her statement.

Yoshitha Rajapaksa was also asked to report to the CID today to record a statement with regard to the same allegation.

Speaking to the media outside the CID office yesterday, Yoshitha said he too was asked to report to the CID this morning to give a statement regarding the defender jeep.when asked if they wanted to record statement with regard to the killing of former rugby captain Wasim Thajudeen, he said it was to record a statement about the jeep. Meanwhile, Rohitha Rajapaksa had reported to the FCID to record a statement in connection with the alleged financial misappropr­iation in the launch of Supremesat’s satellite in 2012 in China. It was reported that the total investment on the project was US$320 million.

Rohitha’s lawyers, former defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa, MPS G.L. Peiris and Keheliya Rambukwell­a accompanie­d Rohitha to FCID.
