CAP recognizes LHD for meeting globally acceptable standards of medical laboratory practices

-

Lanka Hospitals Diagnostics (LHD), a fully-owned subsidiary of Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC, achieved another accreditation status recently from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) as a recognition of medical laboratory practices.

The Lanka Hospitals Corporation PLC Group Chief Executive Officer Dr.prasad Medawatte said that this achievement highlights the continuous improvement and commitment of Lanka Hospital towards international standard patient care by providing accurate laboratory results with stateof-the-art laboratory equipment and a well qualified and internationally recognised team of medical laboratory consultants and technicians.

Lanka Hospitals PLC Chairman Dr. Sarath Paranavitane said that with this status Lanka Hospitals Diagnostics has proven its commitment to uplift the standard of quality in diagnostics in order to provide their patients with reliable and precise reports. “In 2014, market researches told that laboratory business in the diagnostic sector grows much more rapidly than hospital laboratory. Then Lanka Hospital Corporation got into the diagnostic sector,” he said.

He said that this accreditation from the College of American Pathologists is the gold standard for international accreditation.

The CAP accreditation was granted in the wake of continued assessment of the laboratory’s performance by CAP over the last couple years. Strict adherence to guidelines laid down by CAP covering all aspects pertaining to good laboratory practices, with documented evidence of extensive laboratory experimentation to verify the performance of each test on offer, are of prime importance.

Meditrend International was formed in Australia by two Sri Lankans who saw a growing need for products that promote healthy living.

With a vision to offer new and innovative medical technologies to the world through their Australian business, Trevor Ekanayake and Melville Shanmugaratnam also identified a need for dietary supplements and allnatural food supplements in Sri Lanka. Thereafter under the watchful eye of Tania and Gamini de Silva based in Colombo, Meditrend’s fully-owned subsidiary Meditrend International Lanka Private Ltd was formed.

The first products to be launched by the local arm of the company are worldrenowned Nirvana Stevia and Himalayan Salts. The product launch was held at Colombo’s favourite healthy food restaurant ‘Eat Right’ today. Simone Friemann from Nirvana Australia was the visiting Guest of Honour, while the event was also attended by renowned nutritionists, dieticians, chefs from the hotel sector, health and fitness instructors, personal trainers, health-conscious celebrities and members of the media.

For those who prefer their salt to sugar, Meditrend also introduced a range of Himalayan Salts to the local consumer. Sourced directly from the Punjab region of Pakistan, and processed and packed in Australia the Nirvana Organics Himalayan Salts range is available in granules and medium and fine powder form. To add a further kick to the fresh salt, Nirvana Himalayan Salts also comes blended with organic herbs, organic peppercorns or mild and hot chillies. Making cooking all the more easier, these products are also available in ready-touse and attractive grinders and refill packs.

Guests at the launch were treated to a special menu using Nirvana Stevia and Himalayan Salts that was specially created by the culinary team at ‘Eat Right’. They were also allowed to try their hand at preparing their own healthy juice, coffee or tea, and even their own hors d’oeuvres with a dash of their favourite salts.
