PUBLIC SHOULD HOOT SRI LANKA CRICKET ADMINISTRATORS - ARJUNA
Public should hoot at those who administrate Sri Lanka cricket and not at the cricketers, former Sri Lanka Cricket Captain Arjuna Ranatunga said yesterday. Minister Ranatunga came up with this remark during the debate on the Sports Law in Parliament last afternoon.
He was referring to the incident at the end of the India Sri Lanka First One Day International at the Dambulla Stadium on Sunday (20).
“The public should hoot at the administrators of Sri Lanka cricket who are ruining everything and not at the members of the Sri Lanka Cricket Team,” Ranatunga said.
He said bookies, newspaper publishers and importers of cricket gear are engaged in running cricket bodies in Sri Lanka although the International Cricket Council (ICC) had banned those in the said industries from holding posts in cricket bodies. “We still see bookies, newspaper publishers and importers of cricket gear are engaged in running bodies which control cricket in Sri Lanka still though such persons should not be involved in it. Cricket administrators are now trying to blame the Team Manager Asanka Gurusinha for the recent setbacks suffered by the Sri Lankan Team,” he said. Ranatunga also blamed Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC) for not implementing the recommendations which the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission had made in relations to a complaint he filed few years ago. “I filed a complaint with the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission few years ago and the said commission came up with some recommendations. However these are yet to be implemented. This is how things happen in Sri Lanka,” he added.
