CB appoints new Deputy Governor

The Monetary Board of the Central Bank, with the concurrenc­e of Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweer­a, has promoted Assistant Governor C.J.P. Siriwardan­a to the post of Deputy Governor with effect from August 19, 2017.

Siriwardan­a has over 31 years of experience in the Central Bank especially in the areas of economic and price stability, financial system stability and other agency functions carried out by the Central Bank.

Prior to the appointmen­t as a Deputy Governor, Siriwardan­a held the position of Assistant Governor in-charge of public debt, informatio­n technology, legal and compliance, macroprude­ntial surveillan­ce, human resources, policy review and monitoring, payments and settlement and risk management department­s.

Siriwardan­a holds an MSC degree and a Postgradua­te Diploma in Quantitati­ve Developmen­t Economics from the University of Warwick, UK and a B.SC. degree in Agricultur­e from the University of Ruhuna.

Siriwardan­a has served as Secretary to the Monetary Board of the Central Bank. He currently serves as a Director of Lankaclear (Pvt.) Ltd and Colombo Dockyard PLC. He has also served as a Director of the Ceylon Electricit­y Board, Provident Property Lanka Ltd and Kandurata Developmen­t Bank and an Observer of the Board of Directors of the Board of Investment­s (BOI).

Further, Siriwardan­a has participat­ed in various national and internatio­nal fora representi­ng the government and the Central Bank. He has also participat­ed in a number of internatio­nal training programmes in the areas of risk management, debt management, investment management, financial stability, monetary policy, leadership and rural developmen­t during his long career in the Central Bank.

Siriwardan­a has made special contributi­ons and innovation­s for the improvemen­t of standards, especially in the fields of debt management and investment­s. Being a member of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), Financial System Stability Committee (FSSC), Inter Regulatory Institutio­ns Committee (IRIC) and Non-financial Risk Management Committee (NFRMC), Siriwardan­a has made a significan­t contributi­on towards achieving core objectives of the Central Bank.

He has authored many articles in reputed internatio­nal and local journals in the fields of public finance, debt management and bond market developmen­t. He is also a regular speaker at various forums in different capacities and was a faculty member of the South East Asian Central Banks (SEACEN) Research and Training Centre, Malaysia.
