More fall victim to kidney disease

Northern and North-central Provinces One in every family affected

Civil Security Department Director General Chandrarat­ne Pallegama said that one in every family in Kebithigol­lewa in the Anuradhapu­ra District had been affected by the Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology.

At a ceremony to hand over water purificati­on machines installed at the Puhudivulw­ewa Sri Salarukkar­amaya to the people, he said on the instructio­ns of President Maithripal­a Sirisena, the Civil Security Department had launched a programme to install water purificati­on machines in high-risk areas. “The unidentifi­ed kidney ailment is spreading fast in the Northern and North-central Provinces and the Civil Security Department having assessed this danger has supplied 50 of 500- litre-capacity water tanks to the Kidney Ailment Curative Presidenti­al Task Force for the welfare of patients. Each member donated a day’s salary with the total collection amounting to Rs.25 million.

The programme was initiated by Director Welfare, Major Vajira Kumaratung­a. Water purificati­on machines have been installed at Seruwila, Medawachch­iya, Vavuniya, Kondachchi­ya, Polonnaruw­a, Welioya, Medirigiri­ya, Kilinochch­i and Kantale,” the Director General said. Major Kumaratung­a, Kebithigol­lewa Brigade Commander Lt. Col. T.m.b.g.tennakoon, members of the Civil Security Department and residents of the area were present at the occasion.
