More fall victim to kidney disease
Northern and North-central Provinces One in every family affected
Civil Security Department Director General Chandraratne Pallegama said that one in every family in Kebithigollewa in the Anuradhapura District had been affected by the Chronic Kidney Disease of Unknown Etiology.
At a ceremony to hand over water purification machines installed at the Puhudivulwewa Sri Salarukkaramaya to the people, he said on the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena, the Civil Security Department had launched a programme to install water purification machines in high-risk areas. “The unidentified kidney ailment is spreading fast in the Northern and North-central Provinces and the Civil Security Department having assessed this danger has supplied 50 of 500- litre-capacity water tanks to the Kidney Ailment Curative Presidential Task Force for the welfare of patients. Each member donated a day’s salary with the total collection amounting to Rs.25 million.
The programme was initiated by Director Welfare, Major Vajira Kumaratunga. Water purification machines have been installed at Seruwila, Medawachchiya, Vavuniya, Kondachchiya, Polonnaruwa, Welioya, Medirigiriya, Kilinochchi and Kantale,” the Director General said. Major Kumaratunga, Kebithigollewa Brigade Commander Lt. Col. T.m.b.g.tennakoon, members of the Civil Security Department and residents of the area were present at the occasion.
