Prabagaran continues to dominate

Two times Sri Lanka Open winner K. Prabagaran of Nuwara Eliya Golf Club (NEGC) maintained his lead for the third successive day after the completion of the penultimat­e round of the four-round Sri Lanka Open Golf Championsh­ip 2017 which continued at the Nuwara Eliya Golf Club Course yesterday.

Prabagaran who began the championsh­ip with a lead of six strokes went further ahead as he extended his lead to eight strokes and ended with an impressive gross score of 205.

Prabagaran fired an eagle on the 18th hole to finish the third round two under to go into the fourth and final round with an eight stroke lead.

Mithun Perera who was in the third slot at the end of the second round replaced Anura Rohana to push him into the third spot.

Mithun with a dogged two under par ended day three, eight strokes behind Prabagaran with a gross score of 213 with Anura Rohana one stroke behind on 214.

However the sensationa­l performanc­e came from Lalith Kumara who had a scintillat­ing run of six birdies on the 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th and an eagle on the 8th to be eight under par at which stage he was four strokes behind leader Prabagaran but he made a blunder which proved costly and ended on 216.

The foursome was followed by B. A. Sanjeewa (217), Sisira Kumara (221), N. Thangaraja (222), Chanaka Perera (227), R. Pathmanath­an (229) and J. M. D. Indika and Vijitha Bandara (231).

Meanwhile in the August edition of the Cat Solar Pin Fernando Grand Prix, B. A. Sanjeewa went into the lead as he replaced the two day leader Sisira Kumara and ended with a gross score of 217 for a four stroke lead over Sisira Kumara who is on 221.

The others in the fray are Chanaka Perera (227), J. M. D. Indika (231), T. Akash (234), Chalitha Pushpika and Navinda Ranga (234), N. Amarapadma (235), D. M. P. P. Bandara (240) and Pradeep Kumara and R. Sureshan (241). MSA
