Mohammad Mohsin in Bangladesh has no legs, but will still play cricket. He is a captain of the Bangladesh wheelchair cricket team, which will play three T-20 matches against India in the International Wheelchair cricket tournament at the Physical Education Centre playground of Dhaka University on August 25, 26.
Speaking exclusively over his mobile from Dhaka, he said, “I had polio when I was six and lost both my legs… This is a big moment for the wheelchair cricketers in Bangladesh. We have been trying to put this together for a year or so.”
The sponsors for the tournament are Walton, Bangladesh’s leading electronics, electrical, automobile brand and Imago, the Sports management company.
“There are no standard set of rules for wheelchair cricket. In this series against India, we will play in a T-20 format. Most of the rules are similar to the regular game. The games will be played indoors”, the captain added. The players will use wheelchairs.”
“After losing both my legs, I started using a specially modified three wheel bike to go about with my daily business. I don’t require any assistance I fold the wheelchair inside the bike. It is not easy but I manage,” he said with confidence.
The Indian team captained by Atul Srivastava reached Dhaka on Wednesday and was received at the airport by Mahbubur Rahman Palash, General Secretary, Wheelchair Cricket Welfare Association Bangladesh (WCWAB).
This is the first time that a foreign wheelchair team is visiting Bangladesh.
