Programme launched to select discipline­d drivers by Police

Sri Lanka Police will extend its programme of promoting discipline­d drivers in Colombo, Matara and Kurunegala. Initially Police launched this programme in Kandy to identify discipline­d drivers in that region and it became a successful programme. Arrangemen­ts are underway to implement the second phase of this event in the main cities.

Police said recently it had launched a seven-day special programme in Kandy to identify discipline­d drivers and during the programme some 300 drivers were selected and rewarded with vouchers. They were evaluated for safety driving.

The randomly selected drivers rewarded with Rs.3,000 vouchers during the programme.

A team of 38 police officers led by Kandy Division SP H.N.S. Pieris and Traffic OIC of the Kandy IP M.W. Indrasiri conducted the programme in Kandy town.

Police said they would not only target the reckless drivers on the road but also will encourage the drivers who follow traffic rules and regulation­s.

The discipline­d drivers are eligible for free medical test, discounts for hospital treatments and cheaper hotel rates. .

Police said the programme initiated by IGP Pujith Jayasundar­a, will implement in all provinces in the country soon.
