Army set to maintain dominance

Over 350 competitor­s are set to participat­e in the 32nd National Rowing Championsh­ips which will be worked off from September 21 to 23 at the Diyawanna Rowing Centre in Battaramul­la.

The Championsh­ips will be organised by the Amateur Rowing Associatio­n of Sri Lanka (ARASL) and would consist of over 26 races.

The event will be held in keeping with internatio­nal standards and will comprise four lanes and will be rowed over a distance of two kilometres.

The event will be categorise­d as the Men’s and Women’s Open, Over18 and Under-18 and will include singles, pairs, double sculls, coxless, coxed fours, schoolboy sculler and schoolgirl sculler as well as an exhibition eights race.

Competitor­s from 17 institutio­ns representi­ng the armed forces, leading universiti­es, public, private and internatio­nal schools are set to participat­e in the championsh­ips.

The winners of the Open category will be considered as National Champions while the defending National Champions in the Men’s and Women’s Open category – Sri Lanka Army will look to maintain their dominance this year too.

The Men’s Over-18 and the Women’s Over-18 events were won by Sri Lanka Navy while Royal College, Colombo and Musaeus College, Colombo took home the Men’s and Women’s Under18 categories respective­ly.
