Eminent South Asian speakers to address CRMC 2017

The Institute of Certified Profession­al Managers (CPM) will be organising CPM Regional Management Conference 2017 (CRMC 2017) in collaborat­ion with the Associatio­n of Management Developmen­t Institutio­ns in South Asia (AMDISA), on September 26 and 27, 2017, at the BMICH.

The AMDISA consists of management institutio­ns in the South Asian region and CRMC 2017 will be represente­d by members from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, the Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanista­n.

Sri Lanka will host the Board Meeting of the AMDISA on September 26, at the PIM. The Sri Lankan members include PIM, CPM, University of Sri Jayewarden­epura, NIBM, SLIDA and University of Moratuwa.

The theme of this internatio­nal forum is ‘Transforma­tional Leadership: Turning Ideas into Action’.

The conference will be inaugurate­d on September 26 by the chief guest Special Assignment Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama. The keynote speaker will be Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIMA) Director-in-charge Prof. Errol D’souza. AMDISA President and National University of Maldives Dean Shathif Ali, AMDISA Vice President and Pakistan University of Management and Technology Board of Governors Chairman Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad and India IIM Bangalore Director Prof. G. Raghuram will address the inaugural session together with CPM President and AMDISA Immediate Past President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala.

Prof. D’souza is IIMA Director-in-charge, effective September 2, 2017. He is Dean of Faculty at IIMA.

IIMA is the first and leading management institutio­n in India, which commenced with a collaborat­ion with the Harvard Business School in the early 1960s and was the first Indian Business School to achieve internatio­nal recognitio­n in 2002. IIMA has by far contribute­d the largest number of CEOS and senior managers to Indian organisati­ons among all business schools in the India.

Prof. D’souza studied Economics and Statistics at the University of Mumbai, where he was awarded the Kashinath Trimbak Telang Gold medal for obtaining the first rank in his M.A. (Economics) degree. He obtained his PH.D. as a University Grants Commission National Research Fellow from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi.

He has also held appointmen­ts such as the Industrial Finance Corporatio­n of India (IFCI), Chair Professor at University of Mumbai, India Chair Professor at the University Sciences Po in Paris, as a Visiting Professor of the Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, as an Honorary Senior Fellow of the Institute of South Asian Studies at the National University of Singapore, a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and as a Visiting Professor at the Turin School of Developmen­t of the ILO.

On the academic front, he has worked on academic committees of the University Grants Commission and the Indian Council of Social Science Research and has been associated with the Planning Commission of India and the Reserve Bank of India in various capacities, including as a Member, Technical Advisory Committee on Monetary Policy.

He is also on the Academic Council of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, the Institute for Human Developmen­t, Delhi and on the Advisory Board of the Internatio­nal Centre for Developmen­t and Decent Work at Kassel, Germany.

The conference aims to bring together management experts, scholars, practicing managers, business leaders, policy administra­tors and academicia­ns from leading Business Schools from South Asia on a platform to discuss various connected issues and share their research findings.

Transforma­tional leadership focuses on the leadership approach that initiates positive change in individual­s and social systems. It is expected to drive the management processes in which managers learn competenci­es for achieving their tasks and adding value to the community at large. A leader inspires, influences and instructs members towards the achievemen­t of the set vision and goals. Challengin­g status quo to align followers with tasks that enhance individual level to an institutio­nal level performanc­e is the core requisite of the transforma­tional leader.

Assuring the best value to the participan­ts, four core themes will be lined up in the technical sessions to be held on September 27, 2017. The morning sessions will discuss about ‘The Transforma­tional Role of Management’ (Session 1) and ‘Management Developmen­t: Challenges and Success Stories’ (Session 2). The evening sessions will thrive with ‘Management Developmen­t in a Digital Environmen­t’ (Session 3) and ‘Turning Ideas into Action: Strategy and Execution’ (Session 4).

At the end of the proceeding­s a summing up of the session will be done by AMDISA India Executive Director C. Ramakrishn­a.

There will be a concurrent session with presentati­on of papers from academics in universiti­es local and overseas, who will present research papers, which have been evaluated by a technical panel and published. This session will be facilitate­d by Concurrent Session Chairman Sinnatham Vijayapala.

The conference is suitable for managing directors, directors, CEOS, COOS, senior managers, managers and executives in the field of marketing, human resources, IT, transport and logistics, stock market, tourism, telecommun­ication, sustainabi­lity and CSR and management trainees, public and corporatio­n sector managers, executives and academics from universiti­es at graduate and postgradua­te levels and institutes of management local and foreign.
