WILD BOAR TRAP KILLS HAIRDRESSER

- BY NAYANAJEEWA BANDARA

Police arrested three suspects yesterday during investigations into the death of a man whose body had been recovered from a culvert at Kelegasara in Ethimala. The deceased A.m.gunapala (30) was a resident of Gamagala and the father of two children. He was a hairdresser by profession. The suspects taken into custody were from Gamagala, Gemunupura and Tract 300 areas.

A polythene sheet recovered from the scene of the incident provided a clue in tracing the suspects involved in the murder. Police said the residents of the area had been concerned over the dumping of garbage under the culvert by people in passing vehicles wanted to note down their registration numbers to inform the police. When a double cab halted near the culvert briefly and went on its way, area residents noted its registration number. They also looked under the culvert where they found a dead body.

During investigations police received information that the victim had been in love with a young woman in Gamagala after his wife died and that he often visited her.

The suspects told police that they had laid an electrical contraption to kill wild boar and that the young man on his way to see his mistress had stepped on a live wire and was electrocuted.

The suspects added to say they dumped the body under the culvert to avoid legal action for laying a live wire trap to kill wild boar [that resulted in the death of a man].
