Moonasinghe’s arrest shows extent of Govt. corruption:gl

- BY LAHIRU POTHMULLA

The arrest of former Litro Gas Chairman Shalila Moonasinghe over the Taiwanese Bank hacking shows that the extent of government corruption and robbery had spread from the Central Bank to international banks as well, the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) said. Party Chairman G.L. Peiris told a news briefing that

these financial misappropriations could not have been success without the blessings of the government higher-ups.

“Shalila Moonasinghe is someone who has links with the government. The cyber attack on the bank was carried out by an individual who holds a high post in Sri Lanka. Who appointed such an international thief as chairman of a government institution. What is the connection he has with other government higher-ups What happened to the money transferred from the Taiwanese bank,” he said.

Mr. Peiris claimed that it was an international conspiracy which brought the coalition government to power and that one of the requirements was to dilute the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP).

“This goal is being achieved gradually. Today, United National Party (UNP) members who were defeated at elections and an SLFPER who was convicted on the charge of forcing a teacher to kneel were appointed as SLFP organisers. This kind of action works in favour of the UNP,” Mr. Peiris said.

He said ASP Daluwatta who slapped a youth during the Hambantota protest should be arrested under Penal Code and given the maximum punishment.
