STATISTICS: MAIN INGREDIENT IN FUTURE PLANNING

Director General of the Census and Statistics Department Dr. A.j.satarasing­he said that the successful implementa­tion of any programme for sustainabl­e developmen­t targeting unemployme­nt, land and housing problems, educationa­l facilities, poverty and hunger should be based on statistics.

Addressing a workshop to create awareness on the use of statistics to take right decisions among senior officials of the Gampaha District Secretaria­t and divisional secretarie­s in the district he said that the Department of Statistics

Developmen­t programmes would fail if not based on correct data in statistics. With this in view the Department of Census and Statistics has adopted new technology to make available precise statistics to planners,” Director General Satarasing­he said.

Gampaha Government Agent Sunil Jayalath, Senior Statistici­ans P.dharmaward­ene , J.M.S.U. B.jayamaha and several senior officials spoke at the workshop.
