Issuing a statement, the Vice Chancellor­s requested students to return to their lectures immediatel­y as a positive atmosphere had been created for medical students of government universiti­es to continue their education and clinical training.

“The Committee of Vice Chancellor­s decided to release this statement having thoroughly considered the harm that has been done to the health sector of the country due to the refusal of students to undertake their academic work at all State medical faculties during the past few months as well as the uncertaint­y caused as a result of it on their futures,” the statement was signed by the following Vice Chancellor­s Prof. Ranjith Wijewardan­a of the Rajarata University, Prof. Lakshman Dissanayak­e-university of Colombo, Prof. Upul B.
