MAN ARRESTED FOR SELLING MAVA DRUG
Aracketeer, who peddled a narcotic drug that had a street name Mava in the plantation regions was arrested by Police officers of Thalawakale Special Task Force along with the Excise Officers of the Hatton Excise Office yesterday.
When the suspect was arrested, 100 kilos of Mava, a lot of flavoring tobacco, which is used in the making of Mava and a lot of babuls were recovered.
The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the Excise Department and the STF.
The Police said that the racketeer was distributing Mava in a stall in the Hatton-kotagala town and was arrested with the help of a decoy.

Officers of the Excise Office said that the main racketeer was a resident of the Kotagala area and the arrangements had been made to produce the suspect before Hatton Magistrate.
Mava is reportedly widely used by the youths of the estate area and many schoolchildren.
The arrest was made by a team of Police Officers together with Excise Officers on the instructions of Commanding Officer A.A.U. Ranasuriya of STF in Central Province and Commanding Officer, Chief Inspector A.U.D. Udayakumara of Thalawakale STF Unit.
