PERSONS RESPONSIBLE WILL BE PUNISHED-HARRISON

Minister of Rural Economy P. Harrison ,speaking at Kalawewa in Anuradhapura on Saturday ,said that those involved in the Central Bank bond scam would be punished.

He said the commission that was appointed by the President to investigate the Central Bank bond issue that had allegedly taken place was not meant to weaken the United National Party (UNP). He said that the President can speak sternly as well as softly. If he had spoken harshly about anyone they had better watch out, he said.

He said many had incriminated themselves by their actions and that he was not one of them. He said those who had done so will be revealed very shortly. All politicians, including the President, have come to power with the support of the people and they are ready to leave their posts after the completion of their tenure, he said.

He expressed these views on the occasion of releasing fresh water fish to the value of Rs. 1 million into Kalawewa with funding received from the Ministry of Fisheries to promote the fresh water fisheries industry.

When asked about the No-confidence-motion brought against Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Administration Faiszer Musthapha, he said the United National Party had not yet reached a decision on the matter.
