Education minister plans to run on new track Informatio­n Science compulsory

Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasa­m said that the syllabuses in the GCE Ordinary Level (with nine subjects) would be changed and reduced to six subjects and Informatio­n Science made compulsory.

Speaking at the annual prize giving of Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa he said the most developed system of education in the world is that of Finland which was based on practical and vocational training and skills developmen­t.

“The education policy of the government is based on a similar system that would reduce the burden of book learning. The system of education in the country should lead children along the right path to a bright future.
