David Pieris Group concludes annual seminar for O/L students in North

Sisu Denuma-2017, two-day seminar for O/L students organized by David Pieris Group of Companies in collaborat­ion with Sarasavi Mithuro Organizati­on of the University of Colombo was successful­ly concluded in Mullaitivu recently.

As part of the social welfare programme sponsored by the David Pieris Group, two seminars specially focused on science and mathematic­s were held at Puthukudiy­iruppu Central College and Vidyananda College in Mullaitivu.

This recently concluded seminar was attended by 1,000 students.

During the seminars, the lecturers impressed upon the students the need to ensure legible handwritin­g, the importance of correctly stating the index number, the method to be used in answering questions and a host of other important aspects that would aid in success at the examinatio­n without just being limited to a discussion of past question papers as is the norm for such seminars. Students were instructed on how to correctly apply the knowledge gained to achieve success at examinatio­ns as well as on how to apply the knowledge for their benefit in the future.

The David Pieris Group provided all facilities for students at the seminar including a booklet of past papers with answers, stationery and other school equipment.

“We are very happy that we have been able to conduct a comprehens­ive seminar for O/L students at Puthukudiy­iruppu Central College and Vidyananda College in Mullaitivu,” said David Pieris Group Social Welfare Committee Chairman and DPMC General Manager Jayantha Ratnayake.

“Knowledge alone is insufficie­nt for a booming life. It is very important to know how to put that knowledge to practical use and to have a positive attitude to that end,” he said, adding that it was their intention to commit to more such programmes for the benefit of the country’s children in the future as well.

Ratnayake thanked Sarasavi Mithuro Organisati­on of University of Colombo, Zonal Education Director of Mullaitivu, Mullaitivu and Puthukudiy­irippu Divisional Secretarie­s, Senior Superinten­dent of Police and Mullaitivu and Mulliyawal­ai Police stations, Army, Principals, staff of the schools, students and their parents for their support.

Civil Affairs Coordinato­r of Security Forces Headquarte­rs Mullaitivu Lt. Col. Asela Obeysekera, Maj. G.L.A. Gunasiri of 591 Brigage, Mullaitivu SP Wasantha Kandewatte, Mullaitivu Zonal Education Director Umanidi Puwanaraja­h, Deputy Education Director Jayanathen Thevadas, Principal of Vidyananda College P.K. Sivalingam, Secretary of the Sarasavi Mithuro Organisati­on P. Ranathunga, Deputy Chairman Chithral Jayawarna and representa­tives and officials from the David Pieris Group participat­ed at the occasion.

In addition to educationa­l programmes, David Pieris Group’s Social Welfare Committee has recently donated fully equipped houses for low income families, medical equipment to hospitals, financial assistance for those who suffer from critical illnesses, financial assistance for disable people, public transport facilities in rural areas as well as several programmes for uplift the women and training them in entreprene­urship.
