Dushan spins Army SC to stunning win

Right arm spinner Dushan Vimukthi’s nine wicket haul helped lowly placed Army SC to record an outright win by six wickets over fancied NCC who underwent their second outright defeat in the Premier League Tier A inter-club cricket tournament in the match concluded at Panagoda yesterday.

In fact Army SC who suffered an outright defeat to Chilaw Marians in their previous match dominated proceeding­s right from the beginning when they restricted the strong NCC batting to a score of 224 and replied with a formidable 369.

Dushan rattled the opponent’s who were restricted to a score of 235 runs in the second essay. Army SC left with a simple run chase of 91 runs for victory though undergoing some anxious moments reached the target to record their first outright win of the tournament.

Tamil Union clawed their way after having conceded a first innings lead to SLPA CC to record an outright win by 126 runs in the match which ended at the P. Sara Stadium yesterday. The architect of their win was Manoj Sarathchan­dra who reached the three figure mark for a third time in the tournament.

SLPA CC having being set a target of 272 runs for victory succumbed to Dinuk Wickramana­yake and Jeevan Mendis who together shared eight wickets between them. Tamil Union too recorded their first outright win of the tournament.

In the other match between CCC and Ragama CC played at the CCC ground Ragama CC registered a first innings win.
