Diesel mixed with Kerosene found in Galewela filling stations

- BY K K ARIYADASA

The consumers in the Galewela town claim that diesel issued by the filling stations in Galewela town contains kerosene. The diesel issued by both the IOC and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) filling stations in Galewela had been found to contain Kerosene.

The consumers first sensing the smell of kerosene in the diesel which they had obtained from the filling stations had brought this alleged adulteration to the notice of the owners and the workmen at these filling stations. They had replied that they lack equipment to test whether any other liquid had got mixed with the diesel.

Several buses that had obtained this diesel from Galewela now had been malfunctioned and garaged. Measures have been taken to drain out the contaminated diesel from their engines.

Attempts to contact the authorities at the Kurunegala stores from where diesel is issued failed as the office was closed during the week end. The consumers charged that they have no recourse to lodge a complaint or state the injustice caused to them as the IOC and the CPC are not rendering any assistance in this regard.

When inquired from a worker of the IOC, he said that the fuel bowsers dispatched by them to Dambulla and other rural areas are being held up on their way by unscrupulous persons and kerosene is mixed with the connivance of the owners of these bowsers and their workmen. They had received several complaints on this matter and investigations had already commenced. He said further that he is unable to reveal details of these investigations.
