- BY SANDUN A JAYASEKERA

President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday claimed that his party the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) will come away victorious as it was the patriotic choice of all the people, without any differences in race or religion.

Addressing a public meeting held in Ampara, yesterday, President Sirisena encouraged all those present to ensure the victory of the candidates of the SLFP in the Ampara district. He said in the post war era they were now in the process of building reconciliation among the people and fulfilling the responsibilities that were not fulfilled earlier. He maintained that he is dedicated towards ushering in real development, which was denied to the people by the former leaders of this country.

President Sirisena stressed that he, as the leader of the country, was fully committed to working towards progress on behalf of the people regardless of nationality, religion, party or colour.

Addressing an election rally held on the same day at Pottuvil, President Sirisena stated that he had taken a hands-on attitude to nation building, peace and reconciliation in the past three years, which was a matter that wasn’t accomplished before in the post-war era.

The people have not forgotten the misdeeds of the previous regime and they do not believe the tales narrated by former rulers, said the President, inviting all the people to join hands with the SLFP in order to build a prosperous nation.

Developing Pottuvil as a tourist destination will be made a priority for the government in the future said President Sirisena adding that it is expected to give the area a facelift in order to help area residents to earn a better living by attracting more tourists to the country.

Additionally he said the water problem faced by people engaged in agriculture would soon be solved with the launch of the “Hada Oya” water and irrigation project. The President stated that the necessity of having a playground prevails among the youth and necessary steps will be taken to build a stadium as well as to solve the problems with regard to setting up of a regional education office there.
