Sri Lanka participat­es Biofach 2018, internatio­nal exhibition in Germany

The Biofach-vivaness is the world’s leading trade fair for Organic Food in the world and Vivaness, the largest internatio­nal trade fair for natural personal care, will be held from February 14th to 17th 2018 in Nuremberg, Germany.

Around 2,950 exhibitors and more than 50,000 visitors from the national and internatio­nal organic sector are expected at the BIOFACH 2018.

Department of Commerce, the pioneering state institutio­n of Sri Lanka for organisati­on of internatio­nal trade fair is participat­ing in this exhibition with six leading exporters who will exhibit their high quality organic food and beverages to the internatio­nal market arena. In addition, 17 individual exhibitors from Sri Lanka are attending the trade fair to showcase their organic products.

The main focus of the Sri Lankan exhibitors are organic coconut kernel products such as coconut spread cream with different flavours, coconut milk and cream, king coconut and coconut water, edible coconut charcoal, coconut wine, organic spices, organic dried vegetables and fruits such as mangoes, banana, pineapple, sour soup and more, and an array of large food items were displayed by the exhibitors, showing the global food players and profession­als the organic production capacity of Sri Lanka.

According to the exhibitors, participat­ion in Biofach 2018 is strategica­lly important for them as it provides the venue to meet their loyal customers and look for new potential internatio­nal buyers for organic products.

Germany is the second biggest market in the world for organic products, right after the USA and the largest market in the Europe, with a total sales of US$10.5 billion reported in 2016 and accounting for 29 percent of sales in the Europe. Followed by France (18 percent), UK (nine percent) and Italy (eight percent). According to German Household statistics in 2016, it was reported a 10 percent growth over the previous year for spending on organic food and beverages. In a recent survey, the German natural cosmetic market is the strongest in Europe with a market share of 8.5 percent and a volume of 1.15 billion sales.

Department of Commerce organises this trade fair in Germany with the support of Ministry of Industry and Commerce and the Sri Lanka Consulate General in Frankfurt.
