Sri Lanka par­tic­i­pates Bio­fach 2018, in­ter­na­tional ex­hi­bi­tion in Ger­many

The Bio­fach-vi­vaness is the world’s lead­ing trade fair for Or­ganic Food in the world and Vi­vaness, the largest in­ter­na­tional trade fair for nat­u­ral per­sonal care, will be held from Fe­bru­ary 14th to 17th 2018 in Nurem­berg, Ger­many.

Around 2,950 ex­hibitors and more than 50,000 visi­tors from the na­tional and in­ter­na­tional or­ganic sec­tor are ex­pected at the BIO­FACH 2018.

Depart­ment of Com­merce, the pi­o­neer­ing state in­sti­tu­tion of Sri Lanka for or­gan­i­sa­tion of in­ter­na­tional trade fair is par­tic­i­pat­ing in this ex­hi­bi­tion with six lead­ing ex­porters who will ex­hibit their high qual­ity or­ganic food and bev­er­ages to the in­ter­na­tional mar­ket arena. In ad­di­tion, 17 in­di­vid­ual ex­hibitors from Sri Lanka are at­tend­ing the trade fair to show­case their or­ganic prod­ucts.

The main fo­cus of the Sri Lankan ex­hibitors are or­ganic co­conut ker­nel prod­ucts such as co­conut spread cream with dif­fer­ent flavours, co­conut milk and cream, king co­conut and co­conut wa­ter, ed­i­ble co­conut char­coal, co­conut wine, or­ganic spices, or­ganic dried veg­eta­bles and fruits such as man­goes, ba­nana, pineap­ple, sour soup and more, and an ar­ray of large food items were dis­played by the ex­hibitors, show­ing the global food play­ers and pro­fes­sion­als the or­ganic pro­duc­tion ca­pac­ity of Sri Lanka.

Ac­cord­ing to the ex­hibitors, par­tic­i­pa­tion in Bio­fach 2018 is strate­gi­cally im­por­tant for them as it pro­vides the venue to meet their loyal cus­tomers and look for new po­ten­tial in­ter­na­tional buy­ers for or­ganic prod­ucts.

Ger­many is the sec­ond biggest mar­ket in the world for or­ganic prod­ucts, right af­ter the USA and the largest mar­ket in the Europe, with a to­tal sales of US$10.5 bil­lion re­ported in 2016 and ac­count­ing for 29 per­cent of sales in the Europe. Fol­lowed by France (18 per­cent), UK (nine per­cent) and Italy (eight per­cent). Ac­cord­ing to Ger­man House­hold sta­tis­tics in 2016, it was re­ported a 10 per­cent growth over the pre­vi­ous year for spend­ing on or­ganic food and bev­er­ages. In a re­cent sur­vey, the Ger­man nat­u­ral cos­metic mar­ket is the strong­est in Europe with a mar­ket share of 8.5 per­cent and a vol­ume of 1.15 bil­lion sales.

Depart­ment of Com­merce or­gan­ises this trade fair in Ger­many with the sup­port of Min­istry of In­dus­try and Com­merce and the Sri Lanka Con­sulate Gen­eral in Frankfurt.
