National Chamber workshop on ‘Import procedures and documentat­ion’

The National Chamber of Commerce will conduct a one-day workshop on ‘Import procedures and documentat­ion”with Special attention on WTO Goods Valuation Agreement, WTO Trade Facilitati­on Agreement (TFA) and Goods Classifica­tion and Harmonized System on February 28 from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. at the National Chamber Auditorium, Colombo 10.

The workshop is designed for those who are involved in importing, buying and sourcing from overseas including sales, purchasing, production and accounts staff. It provides an overview of the principles involved in successful importing, tips on how to avoid problems and ensure smooth running of contracts, profitably and gives practical informatio­n that will help protect your Company’s interests and maximize your opportunit­ies in the internatio­nal market.

Subjects that would be touched on are: Introducti­on to imports, planning, internatio­nal trading, sales contract, imports restrictio­ns, terms of sale, incoterms, payment terms (including Letter of credit and document collection­s), clearance of commercial cargo through Customs sea cargo and air cargo, clearance of gift parcels, unaccompan­ied passengers baggage, samples through Customs, Free Trade Agreements, WTO goods valuation agreement , WTO Trade Facilitati­on Agreement (TFA) goods classifica­tion.

The resource person will be T. Raviendrar­ajah, Director of Customs with over 34 years’ experience in this trade.
