PRESIDENT TO INTRODUCE NEW PROGRAMME NEXT WEEK
Accelerated Economic Management
President Maithripala Sirisena will introduce an accelerated economic management programme to the country next week through the National Economic Commission (NEC) in the wake of yesterday’s meeting of the NEC held at the Presidential Secretariat.
A Presidential Media Unit statement said the discussions were focused on the immediate changes that were necessary in short term, middle term and long term projects that must be included in the new economic management programme.

At the time the NEC was appointed, the President said there was a need for a stronger programme to develop agriculture and the industrial sector.
Yesterday’s NEC meeting president by President Sirisena was also attended by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Ministers Sarath Amunugama, Nimal Siripala De Silva, Mangala Samaraweera, John Seneviratne, Sajith Premadasa, Rauff Hakeem, Malik Samarawickrama, Faizer Musthapha, Navin Dissanayake, Presidential Secretary Austin Fernando, NEC Secretary, Prof. Lalith P. Amarakone, Prime Minister’s Secretary Saman Ekanayake, Cabinet Secretary Sumith Abeysingha, Treasury Secretary Dr. R.h.s.samaratunga, National Policies and Economic Affairs Ministry Secretary K.D.N. Ruwanwella and Central Bank Governor Dr. Indrajith Coomaraswamy.
