President should form Govt. using Executive Powers: BBS

- BY CHATURANGA SAMARAWICKRAMA

Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera yesterday called on President Maithripala Sirisena to use his Executive Powers to form a Government of his choice and to restore political stability in the country.

Addressing the media at the BBS Headquarters at Rajagiriya Ven. Gnanasara Thera said the President should take action to formulate a common policy and no one would be allowed to meddle with it.

“The President should give a new life to the country. If Maithripala Sirisena is the President, he should have the full Executive Power to form a Government without considering civil society opinion and being influenced by the West,” he said.

“During the past 70 years that political parties came to office and the elected Presidents had acted according to their own agendas, but nothing had been done to the country’s long term stability. As soon as their terms ended the development programmes were also slowed down for a certain period of time,” he said. “Our country was named as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean but unfortunately this country had become the tear drop of the Indian Ocean,”thero said. “All the political parties elected during the past 70 years should be held responsible for the predicament,” Ven. Gnanasara Thera said.

“Two hundred years has passed since defeat of the Uva Wellassa rebellion. Due to the endless greed to power, recklessness and disunity of the commanders, we lost the country and the country became a colony.”

“This present political situation since January 8, 2015 is like a reenactment of the situation that prevailed 200 years ago.

“We as Buddhists believe in rebirth and those commanders who let the country to become a colony in 1818 have reincarnated as present rulers” he said.
