Ironman 70.3 Colombo unveils Expo at Shangri-la
The Ironman 70.3 Expo 2018, the meeting point of 880 athletes, well-wishers and spectators that houses the registration, message boards and presentations for the grand event, kicked off at the Shangri-la Colombo Ballroom and is on from February 22nd to 25th.
The expo took place in the immediate vicinity of the finish line where the exhibitors can benefit from direct contact with athletes, family members and passers-by on the weekend of the race. It was also graced by the presence of Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara, Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau Managing Director Sutheash Balasubramaniam and Tourism Minister John Amaratunga.
The expo will give Sri Lankan vendors a chance to showcase their products to the world, outside the traditional norms of tourism, to a new segment of potential tourists and possible investors in addition to stimulating the interest of local athletes. It aims to showcase local products and services to the world and to put Sri Lanka on the map in the arena of sports. Prospective stall holders are able to present their brand to a highly engaged and promising target group actively seeking to improve their race and families who are on vacation, and these people are part of a group that believes in a healthy lifestyle and wellbeing.
Local cottage industries are also given the opportunity to engage in the event through various event supplies, thereby creating economic opportunities for them while the organisers hope to host a sustainable and environmentally friendly event.
Ironman 70.3 Colombo is organised by Pro-am Serendib, and is made possible by the title sponsor Sri Lanka Tourism Promotions Bureau. Entrance to the Ironman 70.3 Expo 2018 is free to all including the general public.
