Young Shipping Professionals organise ‘CASA Open Quiz 2018’
The much awaited inaugural CASA Open Quiz 2018, conducted by the Young Shipping Professionals of CASA in collaboration with the International Quizzing Association (SL branch) was held on March 3rd 2018, and was a resounding success.
The event saw the participation of 34 teams covering various industry sectors such as logistics and transportation, liner shipping, banking and financial institutes, schools and educational institutes and independent teams and other commercial establishments.
The quiz was an open quiz covering a wide range of topics including current affairs, international trade, sports, games, entertainment, history, science and technology and general knowledge and IQ.
The winner of the quiz was an independent team by the name of ‘Masterminds’ who walked away with a lucrative cash award of Rs.150,000 along with the Gold award, followed by the young and dynamic schoolboys of Ananda College, Colombo 10, who came as runners up bagging prize money of Rs.75,000 along with the Silver award. The third place was awarded to another individual team, ‘Declining Returns’ who also walked away with prize money of Rs.50,000 and the Bronze award respectively.
Apart from the overall winners there was recognition for the respective sector/industry winners who walked away with an trophy and the winners were as follows: Independent teams and other commercial establishments: The Masterminds
and educational institutes: Ananda College Banking and financial institutes: Peoples Bank
and transportation: SAGT shipping: Maersk Lanka Speaking about the event, the Quiz Master and IQA Sri Lanka Branch Head Ruwan Senanayake said: “Young Shipping Professionals of CASA, a dynamic group of young industry professionals with the noble intention of capacity building as well as enhancing camaraderie organised the CASA Open Quiz 2018 in an excellent manner. This being a quiz open to all, they were able to fill a niche that was vacant for some time; an open quiz conducted according to international quizzing rules and standards. As the head of the International Quizzing Association (IQA) Sri Lanka Chapter, I am extremely happy to have been associated with the dynamic team of YSP of CASA from the inception. I also thank YSP of CASA for teaming up with IQA in our endeavor to promote quizzing as a mind sport in Sri Lanka.”
YSP Chairman Navin Perera thanked all the participants and the sponsors for their overwhelming response to participate and support the event and assured that this would be an annual event in the CASA event calendar for the quiz enthusiasts in the island.
