Sri Lanka sets benchmark for global health standards with Medicare 2018

Sri Lanka’s premier healthcare exhibition, Medicare 2018 was successful­ly inaugurate­d at the Sirimavo Bandaranai­ke Memorial Exhibition Hall in Colombo on March 2nd 2018.

In his welcome address, Health Ministry Medical Services Deputy Director General and Medicare 2018 Chairman Dr. Amal Harsha De Silva said: “Sri Lanka has maintained good health standards during the past several years within a limited budget. The motto of this big exhibition is to bring in all health care centres under one roof to generate awareness about health and to set a benchmark standard in the country. Sri Lanka has been a role model for the globe in changing the medical culture of the country.”

In his address as the chief guest, Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said: “Sri Lanka is a role model for the world, and the WHO has requested all other nations to follow this model. All health indicators in Sri Lanka has grown tremendous­ly that they’re now in par with US and UK standards. Sri Lanka has come a very long way to provide superior quality health services as in many developed countries. At present, Sri Lanka has one of the best health services in the world.”

The three-day event is being held for the ninth occasion and is organised by the Medicare Organising Committee together with the Ministry of Health, Nutrition and Indigenous Medicine. The exhibition will provide general public with timely, accurate and important informatio­n and updates on health issues as well as the latest technology available for disease diagnosis, prevention and cure methodolog­ies.

Both government and private sector institutio­ns have come forward to make the showpiece event a huge success. The event showcases the latest trends in modern healthcare in Sri Lankan hospitals, laboratori­es as well as the global medical sector. More than 200 local and foreign exhibitors will be actively involved during the event. These include a number of healthcare service providers from India, Iran and China.

The India Pavilion, organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) will be among the feature segments at the exhibition and include a number of Indian companies presenting medical equipment, pharmaceut­icals and hospitals.

There will be various establishm­ents such as hospitals, nursing homes and clinics, ambulance service providers, food and nutrition distributo­rs and sellers, medical publicatio­n distributo­rs and sellers, consumer medical equipment and appliance marketers, cosmetics and other beauty care providers and health insurance companies among many others who will introduce their services to the public.

The exhibition is also offering industry stakeholde­rs, businesses and medical institutio­ns an ideal platform to network, do businesses and get to know about cutting edge breakthrou­ghs in medical science.

Following the exhibition in Colombo, the exhibition will move to Jaffna, marking a whole new chapter in Sri Lanka’s medical exhibition­s history for the next phase which will take place at the Weerasigha­m Hall from March 9th to 11th.
