HNB WINS LEAGUE NETBALL CHAMPIONSH­IP

The champion HNB team with officials and Chief Guest

Hatton National Bank (HNB) won the Mercantile League Netball Championsh­ip for the second successive year at the competitio­n held at the Torrington Indoor Stadium, Colombo 7.

The tournament was conducted by the Mercantile Netball Associatio­n.

The A Division final was between HNB and Citizens Developmen­t Bank (CDB). The final score was 63-44 in favour of HNB.

In the first quarter HNB led 14-8, in the second quarter HNB were 32-21 and in the third quarter they were in the lead 45-32. Expo Lanka came in third place. The Mercantile Netball Queen was T. Abitha (Citizens Developmen­t Bank).

In the B Division final Sampath Bank beat Omega Line 20-17 and the third place was taken by Singer Sri Lanka.

In the C Division final Access Group were the champions with Fair First INS as the runners-up with the final score

being 28-15. The third place was taken by Commercial Leasing. Plate winners were MAS Active. In the Mixed Division CDB overcame HNB 22-18 and the third place was taken by LB Finance.

In the Masters Championsh­ip Speed Birds were the champions while the Bridgetian­s were runners-up.

Best Performanc­e and Best Centre Court Player: Gayanjali Amarawansa (HNB), Best Shooter: Chaturanga­ni Malkanthi (Expo Lanka), Best Defensive Player: Anjali Ekanayake (HNB), Best Male Player: Dhanushka Ratnayake (CDB), Best Upcoming Player: Jessica Silva (Access Group), Best Team Spirit: Fair First, Best Attire: Brandix, Mercantile Netball Queen: T. Abitha (CDB)

The chief guest was Taraka Ranaweera, Senior Deputy General Manager, Customer Banking, Sampath Bank PLC.
