Women Masters Hockey players still display their skills
Sri Lanka Masters Women, Black and Orange teams for the first time in history, took part at the Kandy Hockey 6’s organised by Seethadevi Girls College Members of Kandy District Hockey Association, held at the Peradeniya University Ground.
Both teams played against very strong opponents lined-up in their groups, which included Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy and Sri Lanka Air Force women teams. Masters Black successfully reached the quarter-finals and was defeated by the Sri Lanka Navy Women’s Hockey “A” team by a single goal.‘s
The Navy “A” team consisted of six present Sri Lanka National Hockey Team Member.the Sri Lanka Masters Women National Hockey Association is formed by a group of strong ex National Hockey Players. The Association is under the patron guidance of Minister Rauff Hakeem who has to date continuously encouraged the Ex National players and the Executive Committee, to make a difference to the game of Hockey as a sport in Sri Lanka.
Coach, M.G.M. Naleem, an elite, Ex Sri Lanka National Hockey Team Captain, was pleased with both team performances, despite the obstacles, such as being residents in different parts of the country and the commitments they now have.
Sri Lanka Masters Women’s National Hockey Association is also proud to announce that they are now members of the International Masters Hockey Association and have commenced ground work to represent Sri Lanka for the first time in history at the IMHA World Cup 2018, which will be held in Barcelona, Spain.
The main aim of the IMHA is to promote and develop international tournaments for Masters Hockey players of all hockey playing nations, not only for elite players selected for their countries, but also for those who want to compete against Masters players of a similar standard from other countries.
