Rapid infrastructure development programme implemented in NE
Under the direction of President Maithripala Sirisena , the National Integration and Reconciliation Ministry has initiated several projects under the Economic and Social infrastructure development programme. Development of Anchorages, Improvements of Road networks, Water Supply and Irrigation schemes, Improvement of Education and Health facilities, and livelihood projects which are immediate requirements for successful Resettlement and Reconciliation in the North and East provinces, a statement said.
With regard to Jaffna District, the project initiated includes Establishment of Economic Centre in Chavakachcheri for Rs.100 million, Palmyrah based Food Processing Centre in Delft, for Rs.20 million Reconstruction of Araly North Murukamoorththy Temple Road - Rs.5.2 million, Development of Anchorages in Palaly North, Polikandy East, Arali Centre and Urany amounting in to Rs.288 million, 2 storey building at Karaveddy Vatharaniyeswara School at Rs 16 million, Rs.7.5 million to improve Grapes Cultivation, Net mending hall at Paasaiyoor - Rs.6 million, Fisheries Livelihood support for Rs.10.5 million, Renovation of Passenger Jetty at Nainatheevu for Rs.30 million, Construction of 2 storey Ward Block at Divisional Hospital , Karaveddy at Rs 25 million, Health Facilities in Divisional Hospital at Rs.14 million have been allocated according to the Secretary of the Ministry of National Integration and Reconcilliation (MNIR) V.sivagnanasothy.
In Mannar District, Rs.19 million has been allocated for Crab cultivation in Manthai West, Mannar Town, Fishing Centre in Manthai West, Construction of Beach Roads, Supply of non-mechanized Fishing Crafts to Fishing community, Improvement of Beach Road at South Bar Covering Mannar.
In Mullaitivu District Water supply with water tanks has been initiated at a cost of Rs.35.6 million in Vadakkadu, Manthai East, Nanthakumaran Nagar, Thunukkai, Kichchirapuram, Maratimepattu, Neeravipitty-selvapuram, Othiyamala-oddusuddan and Issurupuira, Pandulupura, Sangabopura in Weli Oya.
