Minister during the past decade, including those with connections to betting, casinos and those who are currently holding positions at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with regard to match-fixing and frauds associated with broadcasting rights. Mr. Ramanayake told Daily Mirror that he will lodge complaints with the FCID and Bribery Commission in the coming days when these institutions resume work after the New Year vacation. “I have got all the documents ready and will lodge the complaints in the coming days,” he said. “Matchfixing has been going on for decades and has dragged Sri Lanka’s sporting reputation a great deal of harm,” he said.
He charged that there are people who had obtained homes in Colombo as bribes for handing over broadcasting rights to a certain network.
Deputy Minister Ramanayake said people will be surprised to learn the names of certain individuals who have got themselves involved in fraudulent activities after associating themselves with Sri Lankan Cricket (SLC).
“There are very few gentlemen involved in Sri Lankan cricket although it is known as the gentlemen’s game,” Mr. Ramanayake said.
