CTU WANT EDUCATION PORTFOLIO REMOVED FROM CM

-

Ceylon Teacher’s Union has protested against the assigning of the Uva Province education portfolio to Chief Minister Chamara Sampath Dassanayke, who is facing legal action on charges of compelling the Badulla Tamil School Principal to kneel down in is presence.

Ceylon Teachers Union General Secretary Joseph Stalin said the Chief Minister was on bail in connection with the case pending in Badulla Magistrate’s Court and that the Human Rights Commission was conducting a separate investigation into this incident. He pointed out that the Uva Province Governor had appointed a senior Sri Lanka Administrative Service Officer to hold a formal investigation. The trade union leader said the Governor had informed the union on February 16, that further action would be taken on the findings of the ongoing investigations.

He said in response to the public protests the education portfolio was withdrawn from the Chief Minister to prevent any possible interference in the investigations.

“While the investigations and the court case are pending, the Chief Minister, had been assigned the eduction portfolio has been assigned to him. It is a clear indication that the removal him from the post when the public protested against the incident was just an attempt to hoodwink the public.” The trader union leader said.

He requested the President and the Prime Minister to remove the education portfolio from the Chief Minister and do justice to the Badulla Tamil School Principal.
