CABINET RESHUFFLE AGGRAVATES CRISIS IN THE GOVT: JVP

- BY AJITH SIRIWARDANA

Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) MP Vijitha Herath said yesterday the Cabinet reshuffle which was done to resolve the crisis in the government had aggravated it. “The cabinet reshuffle has not been able to resolve the crisis in the government or has it yielded any benefit to the people. It has aggravated the issue. This has shattered the hopes of the people and the country would be led to a serious crisis in the future,” he said.

He said even though the government claimed to divide the portfolios on a scientific basis, what really has happened was that the ministries have been divided on personnel agendas and the cabinet reshuffle was only a change of heads.

“The Ministries had been offered to please certain individuals and to take revenge from some people, rather than being divided on a scientific basis. If the ministries were divided on a scientific basis, agriculture, irrigation, livestock and land should come under one ministry,” he said.

He said the good governance was elected to power as a protest against the excessive ministries under the previous government and added that the present government was doing the same, contrary to the promises given to the people. Mr. Herath said the government has done four cabinet reshuffles within three years, which proved that the government did not have a clear vision or action plan.
