Three-month remembranc­e of Late Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarath­ana Thera begins

Dhamma sermon and alms giving will be held at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya premises on May 5th and 6th

Former Chancellor of the Sri Jayewarden­epura University and the Viharadhik­ari at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya late Ven. Prof. Bellanwila Wimalarath­ana Anu Nayake Thera’s three-month remembranc­e Dhamma sermon and offer of alms to more than150 members of the Maha Sangha will be held at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya premises on May 5th and 6th.

Senior lecturer of the Kelaniya University Ven. Prof. Kollupitiy­e Sri Mahinda Sangharakk­itha Nayake Thera of Kelaniya Raja Maha Viharaya has been invited to deliver the commemorat­ive Dhamma sermon at 7.00 p.m. tomorrow (5) at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya.

The series of meritoriou­s deeds, organized under the aegis of Ven. Dr. Bellanwila Dhammarata­na Nayake Thera, Chief Incumbent of Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya who is also functionin­g as the Chief Sanghanaya­ke of Singapore and the Advisor at Singapore Buddhist Library, culminate on the following day (May 6) with offer of alms (Sangeeka Daana) to more than 150 Buddhist monks, headed by Malwatte - Asgiriya Maha Nayake Theras, Anunayake Theras, Maha Nayake Thera of Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabhawa, Chief prelates and other members of the Maha Sangha.

To coincide with the commemorat­ive event, more than 300 selected school students of underprivi­leged families will receive gift parcels of school and educationa­l accessorie­s, patronized by Singaporea­ns, attached to the Buddhist Library of Singapore.

In addition, a parallel blood donation campaign, arranged by old students of the Sri Lanka Community Developmen­t Foundation at Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya will get underway on Sunday (6) at Sri Somarathan­a pilgrims’ rest, adjacent to the temple premises. Similarly, Bellanwila Tharuna Bauddha Sanvidanay­a has planned to donate dry rations and food items to needy families in the area as another meritoriou­s act, meant to transfer merits on late Ven. Bellanwila Wimalarath­ana Anu Nayake Thera.

All organizati­ons including the Dayaka Sabha and the Sri Bodhiraja Kulagana Samithiya in the temple have coordinate­d these commemorat­ive programmes.
