GOVT. SERVANTS SHOULD CARRY OUT ORDERS OF POLITICIANS: VAJIRA

- BY SAJEEWA WIJEWEERA

Minister of Home Affairs Vajira Abeywardene said it was a misconception that the government servants were not abiding by the decisions of politicians. He stressed that every government servant should carry out the orders of politicians.

Addressing a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for the proposed building for the Mahiyangana Divisional Secretariat he said it was incumbent on the government servants to implement the government’s policy as stipulated in the Establishment Code. He stressed that the government would be compelled to take action if the government servants neglected their duty to implement government policies.

He stressed that every government servant should carry out the orders of politicians

“The government servants have to abide by the Establishment Code and the Constitution to implement the decisions of the government. If any government servant opines that he was not expected to carry out the orders of politicians he is mistaken. Government servants who failed to implement the policies planned by the government, would be liable to punishment under the law. Under whatever political party in power they must implement the policies of the government. We have given much publicity to our policies and our plans during the election campaign. The people who approved them elected us to power. Now the government must implement its policies to meet the aspirations of the people. This could be done only through the government servants. However, they are not expected to carry out any illegal order by law. But it should be pointed out ” he further said.

Vedda Chief Uruwarigelage Vannila Ettho and several local politicians were present at the occasion.
